Hi.

Is this a domain based or stand alone namespace?

In any case there will be a share with the same name as the namespacename on all namespace server. If something went wrong during the decommissioning of the namespace the share might be left. Please try the following command:

C:\>dfsutil diag clean

DESCRIPTION:
Clean is a repair command to remove a reference to an obsolete root from
a host machine. Changes will be made in the specified server's registry.

USAGE:
dfsutil diag clean <\\server\share> [Verbose]

PARAMETERS:
<\\server\share>  : server - Name of the system hosting the root to be
                    cleaned
                    share -  Name of the Domain based or Standalone
                    root to remove.
Verbose           : Displays additional information while the tool runs.


EXAMPLES:
dfsutil diag clean \\MyTargetServer\ShareName

Else check if the namespace share can be removed manually.

If it is caused by imcompletely removing, you could find DFS configuration in ADSIedit. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/224384

Hi, we have a w2k8r2 server on which we installed installed dfs. however after1 month we started to get some issue and we decided to stop the dfs.

We remove the name space via the gui,but when I access the server via its hostname I still get the name space folder and it opens also.

When I open the server by its ip address , it opens without the namespace folder. This is creating complications on the system as we use offline files,batch files to map the network drives. The windows xp clients get offline connectivity when they are mapped via the server's hostname.

When I remove the map drives and use it via the ip it works.

how can I definitely remove the phantom dfs namespace.
